My son is 51/2 months old, i was wondering when it would be ok to start 2nd foods? He eats fruits and veggies from the stage one foods and likes them. But theres not much of a variety of foods he can eat, i want him to be able to try new foods, i dont know if its just the store i got to or what. But i don't wanna start him to soon or to late.|||well I think you started him too soon overall. You should have held off on cereal and 1st stage until he was 6 months and then moved to stage 2 at about 7 months and then ended with stage 3 at about 8 months.|||Once you have introduces all the stage one foods, you can move on to stage 2. Just be cautious watching for possible food reactions since many of the stage 2 foods have more than one ingredient :)|||My son eats the Earth's Best organic baby food and the jars say 6 months and up. With that being said, most of the foods are just slightly thicker than the Stage 1 foods (not anything they would need to chew), come in larger jars, and often are a mixture of foods such as apples and pears or chicken and vegetables. |||At 5 1/2 months alls I ever did for my boys was a little bit of cereal then moved up to making it a little thicker. Every child is different on needs for moving up on food. I told my sister just the other day that I think the stage 1 foods are a waist of money. Stage 2 is a little thicker and much better variety. Just make sure your not giving him only sweet foods.
Good luck and watch it soon its a happy meal!|||My daughter started 2nd foods at 6 months old. Its true, 1st foods dont give you anything for variety. Our doctor told us, 2 days trial with every 1st foods fruit and vegetable Ex.-- 2 days beans only, then 2 days applesauce as long as green beans didnt have adverse affect and so on, until he has cleared all 1st foods. ( you can combine the foods as he clears them.) Then once youve finished that, you can start on 2nds. Thats how we did it, and it worked well. Congratulations and good luck!!|||rule of thumb- once he starts walking he can eat solids|||Make your own! Stay away from things like peanut butter and other possible allergens but cook up your own mixtures and blend them into a nice smooth paste for him! that way he can try everything you want him to try and you don't have to stress on it!
Btw, don't listen to people who said you started too early... my son started solids at 4 months because he was a hungry little bugger and nearly 2 yrs and 8 months on (hes nearly 3!) he's got a good appetite and theres nothing wrong with him!|||My daughter started cereal when she was 4 months. I waited until the 6 month mark to introduce other foods.
You can cook your own fruits and veg that way you can give him a much wider variety
My daughter had:
Pumpkin
potato
sweet potato
Carrot
Parsnip
Corn
Pears
Apple
banana
avocado
Mango
rock melon
And any mixed variety of the above with/without cereal.
I decided to wait until the 6 month mark as that is the "official" recommendation for starting solids... I started early as I believe that 'solids" is another milestone to be reached and it should not be a set in stone age (none of the other milestones are so why should solids) my daughter was showing all the signs of being ready (sat up well, no tongue thrust, VERY interested in food etc)
Don't let ANYONE tell you you did the wrong thing by starting solids before 6 months... it is your baby and you know him best...
(Sorry for the added rant I just get a bit annoyed at how people think one rule shoudl fit everyone and if you don't follow it you did the wrong thing...)
EDIT%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;
sorry I meant she started cereal at 4 months and then fruit and veg (stage 1 I guess...we don't have stages where I live) and at 6 months I introduced other things...she wasn't just on cereal until 6 months|||Cereal only until they can crawl, Does your Dr know that he is already eating veggies?!?
You will have plenty of time to feed this kid, why rush?
