We just had 2 embryos transfered 3 days ago. They handed me a sheet that showed all of my embryos: cell stage and quality. They basically told me 8's were the best and the quality of A%26amp;B was like that of quality grade of eggs at the store? What on earth does that mean? We did a 3 day transfer. I have (1) 7A (3) 7B (3) 8A (5) 8B (1) 9A (2) 9B (2) 10B. Why when I read forums, other doctors have transfered 5 cell up to 10 cell? I just don't understand why 8's?|||It's hard to say exactly what your clinic means as every clinic grades differently. My clinics' lab uses scale 1-5 (5 best) and A-D (A best). Some clinics will have 1 as best and D as best. It seems that your clinic uses A as best yet uses a differ number scale. Plus, there are different numbers of cells depending on the day you transfer. You did a 3 day transfer. Having embryos reach to 8 cells is great! I think when they told you "8's were the best" they most likely meant "8 cells" because that is the most common. Some may have fewer cells and some may make it to 10, but 8 is average. They can grow rapidly. By day 5 they have hundreds of cells!
Do know that all lab grades are subjective. Grading embryos is like grading figure skating. One may say you were perfect while another says you stumbled a bit.
Know this, no matter the quality of the embryos they can still work. I know many who have transferred embryos with less than 8 cell and got pregnant. In fact, I have a friend who had 2 less than 8 cell Grade C (grade A being best in her case) embryos transferred. Her twin boys just turned a year old. Your embabies are great!
Sending sticky thoughts!
