Why do you think a microscope must alwasy be stored with the LPO in place over the stage?

I have my students store their microscopes on the shortest objective to lessen the chance of damaging the objective lens. Why do you think a microscope must alwasy be stored with the LPO in place over the stage?
I've never heard that before. On what objective we keep our lenses depends largely on what the scope is used for. Microbiology keeps the scopes on 100X. I keep ours on LPO because of different sized specimens. Why do you think a microscope must alwasy be stored with the LPO in place over the stage?
Because people usually scan their slides first using an LPO. When they find something interesting, they focus with a higher objective.
