I'm going to bleach my hair soon from brown to blond.
this is my natural color (medium ash brown)

this is the color I want (light ash blond) maybe a little darker

I know the last three stages of the bleaching process are gold-yellow, yellow and pale yellow. But I don't know which stage to stop at and what to do next.
I don't want to go to the salon and I don't want to have hair any lighter than the hair in the picture (in fact, if it's slightly darker that's OK too. somewhere between a medium and light ash blond is perfect.) I definitely don't want white blond or yellow tones.
What stage of the bleaching process should I stop at and what should I apply then? I've heard about toners, but they seem to be for hair at the last stage of the bleaching process. I don't think I want my hair that light. Should I stop at an earlier stage and use a permanent hair-color with a blue or violet base?|||i would say go to a salon and have them bleach your hair the first time. if you bleach your hair and you have never done it before you can really do some major damage. they know exactly what they are doing. if you leave the bleach on for even a little too long it can cause your hair to break off. after the first time at the salon you can just buy a box of hair color from walmart or target. bleach is too risky if youve never used it before :( i wanted a peek-a-boo color and i tried it and left the bleach on for about 15 minutes too long and it broke off and even 3 years later it grows like twice as slow as the rest of my hair.
if you do decide to do it yourself, follow the directions carefully and only leave it on for how long the directions say even if they color isnt coming out like you want it too. it will turn an orangish color with the first bleach. you will need to wait 2 weeks before you put color or bleach on it again. just be careful! :)
