So I have a cobalt SS SC 06' that I think is staged (2) I just got it a month ago used and the pully on the supercharger looks smaller and aftermarket, anyways my check engine light keeps going on and when I test it, it says emitions too lean but I've been putting premium.. so I talked to a guy at a auto parts store and he said I may need to replace the fuel pump and injectors.. if I keep driving it like this just driving (not racing) for a while will it be ok? Or should I park it till it gets fixed? Thanks... Also leave me tips on maintenancing it, thanks|||It will be okay if you keep your foot out of it. The problem is pretty straightforward - when you are demanding more fuel flow, the manifold pressure is also high. The fuel injectors operate based on the pressure difference between the fuel rail and the injector tips. Under high boost the pressure across the injector drops because the regulator can't compensate for that much boost. That is why you need a higher pressure pump/fuel pressure regulator and probably larger injectors. Good thing the light was there to tell you it is running lean - the exhaust valves won't put up with a torrent of very hot gas with lots of leftover oxygen for very long.|||Running lean won't hurt anything except performance. Many times people change the SC pulley without upgrading the computer. This causes too much air (boost) to enter the engine without enough fuel (running lean). You either need to buy a computer programmer that fits your pulley size or go back to the stock pulley size. You could also take it and get a custom "dyno tune" for about $500.
Without the programmer, chances are your car has less power now then it would if it had the OEM size pulley.
If the PCM has been upgraded with the pulley, then you may need a larger fuel pump and/or injectors. Generally, changing only the pulley don't require a larger fuel pump/injectors.
