To mothers who use store bought baby food?

My daughter is 8 months old... she has done great on the stage 2 foods and is eating a few finger foods... pieces of veggies, gerber puffs, etc. I tried some of the stage 3 dinners and she HATES them! Once she realizes it has chunks, she gags and spits them out.

She seems to love purees and love finger food, but not purees with more texture. Should I just skip the stage 3 dinners and go straight to table food?|||In my opinion, the stage 3 dinners are just a bland version of table food, so I would skip them and just go on to table food. Just make sure everything is very small or mushy so she won't have any problems getting it down. If she doesn't like the table food, then go back to stage 2 for a little while and try it again later. Good luck! My son was completely eating table food and feeding himself at every meal by the time he was 10 months old. It was very messy because he did all this with his fingers, of course, but he loved it and refused to let me feed him.|||I certainly would say go for the straight table food. I remember my kids not liking those pre made stage 3 foods. We just went with bland chicken and macaronni and that was great. Just make sure it is cooked enough and cut it up small enough for your daughter to eat and I think it would be just fine.|||You could - I would ask your dr.

But my daughter did the same thing. I just kept trying and eventually she loved them! Couldn't get enough of them. I suggest you keep trying, give her a week or two. Then perhaps try table food according to your dr's advice.|||my son is nearing 9 mths and he loved the purees and finger foods. ive even started giving him cheerios. as for the table food, well ive given him carrots and beans, well cooked of course, mashed potatoes, and small pieces of crackers. he loves the table foods. i just make sure to watch him real close and make sure he chews them. he likes them so much he tends to try shoving more in his mouth than necessary!|||I did....my kids hated the stage 3 foods. Once they start eating normal table foods they really don't want the jar food anymore. Just make sure the table foods are cut up small enough for her to eat.|||Well my daughter never really got into the stage 3 foods either. Just go with the stage 2 and start mixing in table food with it.|||I would try it yeah. If she likes table food go for it|||I just asked a similar question (sort of) about my 6 month old.

I say go for it!

I was given the suggestions of asparagus, apples, broccoli, toast, yogurt, green beans, banana, carrot...|||Babies take their time when it comes to having foods with more texture. If your daughter doesn't like chunkier foods, make sure the chunks are easier for her to chew and swallow. At 8 months she should be starting to get teeth, so she should be encouraged to eat a wider variety of foods and not just puree.|||Good question and I wish I could give you some insight. My son is 6 months old and we are just starting Stage 2. I will be checking back on your question though as a reference when we get there. Thanks.|||Yes, just skip that step... the longer she is on baby food, the harder it is to get her to eat table food. I learned this with my son...

I didn't know any better... but with the next baby, he/she is going straight to table food. Less expensive and a much easier transition. I'll keep some baby food on hand for convenience or traveling... but thats it.|||my son did the same exact thing and after I spoke with my doctor and got the OK from them I just started feeding my son table foods; i.e. mashed potatoes, vegetables(as long as they were cooked well enough).

You just have to watch them and make sure they don't gag on any pieces.

But like my doctor told me the stage 3 baby foods are just a waste of money and I agree totally with him. we have saved quite a bit of money on not buying them.

We do still occasionally buy the Beech-Nut Good Morning or Good Evening ones if we are going someplace but most of the time we just give him what we are having or I will order some hot cereal and give that to him. Hope this helps and Good luck|||she may not be ready for the more textured foods. and sometimes those foods dont taste as good as the last type they had. if it were me i would just wait another week or so and then see whats he thinks. if she still turns them down, then try mixing her pureed food with the chunkier ones and see if she notices. that way you can wean her.

is she STILL doesnt go for it and has the teeth and capability of eating the "grown up" food, then give it to her!

good luck and congrats on moving up to the big food!|||you might try it... it seems like she can chew. my baby had a similar problem. when I gave her the st.3 food, she would try to gulp it down immediately, but then the pieces made her gag. so we moved onto the next stage!!|||Yup, you are correct in your thinking. Our son HATES chunks in puree but LOVES his table food. Go for the table food. There is no reason why you have to use ANY stage baby food.|||Well you have to do whatever is nutritionally right for your daughter. I would continue to do what you're doing and try table food, just make sure it's all cut very small so there is no choking hazard. Talk to your child's doctor about her not liking chunky textures. It sounds like she's used to only swallowing and not chewing her food. Maybe they can recommend something.|||I would, just cut it up very fine or just grind/puree your own.|||I think the chunks are gross, too. BTW, when my two oldest kids were babies, baby food only had two stages: baby and toddler. The only difference was that toddler was a bigger sized jar. It didn't' harm them to go to table foods.

America is famous for making up a problem, and then making up a solution for it that costs money...I'd be willing to bet these "stages" baby foods were invented by us.
