I just got mine at a pet store around 5 days ago. I brought this one because it looked active and it is active. My leo is around 4-5 inches and looks like in its juviniele state. I dont know how old it is or anything because I brought it from the pet store. (No I didn't breed it) So should it grow a fat tail by now or by its adult stage? Also I learned geckos need calcium. I brought a calcium spray becuase there were no powders. It says on the bottle, "For vegeterien lizards" Im wondering if its acceptable for my leo? Thanks in advance|||Leopard geckos tails store fat. When the tail is plump the lizard is healthy and well nourished. If the tail looks thin or deflated the lizard could be malnourished or under-fed.
I have never seen a calcium spray and I would prefer a powder, but if the spray says that it is to complete a reptile diet it is probably alright to use. Make sure that you feed plenty of small crickets to your lizard. You should watch him eat and make sure that there aren't many crickets in the cage that he hasn't eaten. Reptiles are delicate and enough crickets can cause serious injury, even eat your gecko's little toes. Leopard geckos should also get fruits and vegetables on occasion. They are more likely to eat them when they are older, but it is good to offer them even to a young gecko so he gets used to them. Dark lettuces like romaine, kale, spinach, chard, mustard, or collard greens are good as well as carrots, broccoli and fruit. Whatever you choose make sure to chop it very small and put calcium on it as well.
Hope this helps you! You can email me with any other questions.|||I know that you have to wait a little longer and it will grow as its tail grows too.|||no, I don't think the spray is good. Vegetarian Lizards? I've never heard of that, only for Iguana MAYBE.. Leopard Geckos arent vegitarian.|||maybe go to a diffrent pet store and get the powder, leos will actually lick the powder up if suppied in a dish in their cage. how much are you feeding this guy the more you feed it the fatter the tail will get. mine aquired their rounded tail at about 4 months of me having them. and it was gradual growth. also the more wax worms you give them the more fat they become becasue wax worms are very fatty. if i think my leo looks like it is starting to loose weight i give him four or so wax worms untill he is back up to what i think he looks better at, but i only will do this up to 3 days. then give it a rest. becasue i dotn want him getting to fat. my female rules him and sometimes she decides his food is hers. but other than that they get along.|||Leos definitly need calcium mine actually eat it out of a soda bottle lid i keep filled in their cages. I have never heard of the spray and i've had gecko's for a while i would definitly look for the powder and if you can't find it locally you can order it online. As for the tail the healthier your gecko is the fatter it will get. with out actually seeing it its hard to tell but younger gecko's usually do have skinnier tails but they beef up pretty quick. It's been my personal experience that most geckos you get from pet stores have just had crickets thrown in and how much they actually eat isint really monitored my youngest was about three inches when i got her and terrified of crickets because she had been bitten by too large of bugs being left in her tank. offer her food daily and only a few crickets at a time i think mine ate about 4-6 crickets or 6-9 mealworms a day and within just a couple weeks you could see the difference in her tail. she is now a little pig and will eat anything you put in with her.|||if its only 4-5 inches long it is definatley a juvie. find the powder supplement there is a calcium spray that is acceptable i have used it b4 but the powder is much better. but the spray you are talking about is for vegitarian reptiles not leopards they are carniverous.i raise leopards and other geckos have never had them eat any type of vegitable but if you can then more power to you but never feed spinach. spinach althoug is high in calcium it has a chemicle that will inhibet the absorbtion of all calcium and then you will have to deal with metabolic bone disease (you dont whant that). as far as the tail they will get it with age yours is still too young to have a real fat tail
